No. 285/1936. —Petition of H. F. Chaffey. Praying that he be compensated for work performed in connection with the asbestos deposits at Upper Takaka. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 16th September, 1938.
No. 100.—Petition of J. Collins. Praying that a miner's phthisis pension granted him be made retrospective to May, 1931. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 16th September, 1938.
Parliamentary Paper No. 119. (Amended regulations under the Mining Act, 1926.) I am directed to report that the Committee has duly considered this paper and is of opinion that it should be referred to the Government for consideration. J. O'Brien, Chairman. 16th September, 1938.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee unanimously passed the following resolution : " That this Committee place on record its appreciation of the able and courteous manner in which the Chairman, Mr. J. O'Brien, has conducted the business of the Committee, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." A. F. Moncur, Member of the Committee. 16th September, 1938.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Goldfields and Mines Committee expressed its appreciation of the services rendered by the Clerk, Mr. E. M. Anderson, and directs that the resolution be reported to the House. 16th September, 1938.
Final Report. The Goldfields and Mines Committee lias held three meetings during the session, with an average attendance at each meeting of five members. Including one carried forward from last year, the Committee had before it four petitions, which were duly considered and reported on. Amended regulations under the Mining Act, 1926, were considered and reported on. J. O'Brien, Chairman. 16th September, 1938.
