REPORTS.

No. 37. —Petition of Elizabeth Adams and 2 Others. Praying for a compassionate grant on account of loss sustained by fire. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 31st August, 1939.

No. 3/1938.—Petition of G. W. Bare and 3 Others, Upper Plain Road, Masterton. Praying that provision be made for the re-roofing of their residences, and that their mortgage liabilities due to the Crown be reduced. I am directed to report that the prayer of the petition having already been satisfied by the State Advances Corporation, and the member in charge of the petition having requested leave to withdraw the same, the Committee recommends that the petition be allowed to be withdrawn. 31st August, 1939.

No. 2.—Petition of Margaret Beattie, 88 Russell Street, Dunedin. Praying that she be granted a widow's pension. I have the honour to report that the prayer of the petition having been already satisfied by the Social Security Department, and the member in charge of the petition having requested leave to withdraw the same, the Committee recommends that the petition be allowed to be withdrawn. 31st August, 1939.

No. 13.—Petition of J. T. Cowan, Grahams Road, Pukekohe. Praying that he be granted an annual allowance or a compassionate grant for long service in the Police Force. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and that, in the opinion of the Committee, the petitioner is entitled to the sum of £400. 31st August, 1939.

No. 4.—Petition of W. S. Cooper, 193 Daniell Street, Wellington, S. 1. Praying for reinstatement in the Public Service. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for urgent and most favourable consideration. sth September, 1939.

No. 103/1938.—Petition of C. A. Flaunty, 410 Broadway, Miramar, Wellington. Praying for an increase in the. amount granted as a compassionate payment arising out of the death of his son. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. sth September, 1939.

No. 19.—Petition of S, H. Hollis, 11 Mount Street, Auckland. Praying for compensation for injuries allegedly received whilst employed by the Public Works Department. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 12 September, 1939.

No. 22.—Petition of G. Jenks, 3 Finch Street, Morningside, Auckland, S.W. 1. Praying for compensation for reduction of superannuation owing to enforced early retirement from the Post and Telegraph Department under the provisions of the Finance Act, 1931, and other relief. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 12th September, 1939.

No. 43. —Petition of G. Kirkbride, Waimana. Praying for payment of the sum of £88 14s. 4d„ being the balance of an amount twice paid for work carried out under an unemployment-relief scheme, together with Court costs in connection therewith. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 12th September, 1939.
