Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives Thursday, the 27th Day of June, 1946 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters in connection with defence which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderton, Mr. P. Carr, Mr. Connolly, Mr. Harker, Mr. Macdonald, Mr. Macfarlane, Mr. Osborne, Mr. Roy, Mr. Sim, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. Jones.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1945 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Thursday, the 12th Day of September, 1946 Ordered, " That the proceedings of the Defence Committee during the taking of evidence on the hearing of the petition of G. Laing be open to accredited representatives of the press."—(Mr. Macfarlane.)

No. 3.—Petition of J. B. Chambers, of Raetihi, Farmer Praying for compensation on account of alleged financial loss due to service in the Forces. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. It is the opinion of this Committee that the petitioner should re-submit his application for rehabilitation assistance. 31st July, 1946.
