Government Drills No Mines Department drills were available for hire to private concerns during 1946. The Department's own operations show a substantial footage of drilling which is recorded in detail elsewhere in the Mines Statement. Subsidized Roads A sum of £7,015 was expended in subsidies for the maintenance and construction of roads in mining districts during the 1946-47 year. The expenditure in the previous year was £4,603.
