This year has been marked by steady progress of the Maori people in the development and settlement of their own lands under the guidance and supervision of the State. The policy of encouraging the Maori people to take their rightful place in the ranks of the Dominion's husbandry is one branch of Government's general policy of ensuring that the Maori people occupy and maintain a position in the social and industrial life of the Dominion in all respects equal to that of the rest of the community.
