Mr. Norman Smith's book, " The Maori People and lis,' 5 was published during the year and met with a very gratifying reception by reviewers. Sales to date have been most satisfactory. With the financial assistance of the Board, the Polynesian Society has made good progress with the publication of the third volume of traditional Maori songs collected and annotated by Sir Apirana Ngata. General. —Grants Were received from the various Maori Land Boards during the year for certain specified purposes, including contributions to the Auckland Maori Community Centre, the Maori guest house at Rotorua, and the improvement of tribal maraes.
