FRIENDLY SOCIETIES AND TRADE-UNIONS SEVENTY-SECOND ANNUAL REPORT BY THE REGISTRAR OF FRIENDLY SOCIETIES, FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31st DECEMBER, 1948

I have the honour to submit the annual report of this Office for the year ended 31st December, 1948, in accordance with the provisions of the Friendly Societies Act, 1909, section 9, and the Trade-unions Act, 1908, section 16. REPORT

PART I—FRIENDLY SOCIETIES Legislation The Friendly Societies Amendment Act, 1948, amends the Friendly Societies Act, 1909, as follows: Sections 11 (2) and 51 (1). —The maximum annuity for which a member may contribute is increased from £52 to £lO4 per annum. Section 33.—The maximum charge for a demand copy of rules is increased from Is. to 2s. 6d. Section 55. —Provision is made to allow a branch, with the consent of its central body, to also operate a loan fund, and the maximum allowable interest in a loan fund is increased from £2OO to £3OO. Sections 60 (1) and (2) and 63.—The requirement of a second general meeting to confirm a special resolution is deleted.
