Extracts from the• Journals of the House of Representatives Friday, the Bth Day of July, 1949 Ordered, '' That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting, by leave, of fifteen members, to consider all petitions, reports, returns, and other documents relating to affairs especially affecting the Maori race which may be referred to it, and from time to time to report thereon to this House : the Committee to consist of Mr. Cotterill, Mr. Kearins, Mr. Langstone, Mr. Maher, Mr. Massey, Mr. Murdoch, Mr. Ornana, Mr. Osborne, Mr. Paikea, Mr. Ratana, Mr. Sim, Mr. Smith, Mr. Sullivan, the Hon. Mr. Tirikatene, and the mover."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1948 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Tuesday, the 18th Day of October, 1949 Ordered, " That the Maori Purposes Rill be referred to the Maori Affairs Committee."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Memoranda for the Chairman, Maori Affairs Committee " Pursuant to section 27 of the Maori Purposes Act, 1933, Paper No. 73 (Report and Recommendation of Maori Land Court on Petition No. 220 of 1932, of Rima Wakarua and others, concerning land on the Waitotara River) stands referred to the Maori Affairs Committee." (20th July, 1949.) " Pursuant to section 19 of the Maori Purposes Act, 1943, Paper No. 74 (Report and Recommendation of Maori Land Court on Petition No. 41 of 1942, of Hare Matene te Wano and others, concerning Waimarino 3n Ia Block) stands referred to the Maori Affairs Committee." (20th July, 1949.) " Pursuant to section 55 of the Maori Purposes Act, 1947, the following Papers stand referred to the Maori Affairs Committee : " No. 75. Report and Recommendation of Maori Land Court on Petition No. 30 of 1947, of Maniairangi Paora, concerning the will of Mou te Hapuku, deceased. "No. 76. Report and Recommendation of Maori Land Court on Petition No. 29 of 1947, of Karena Tamaki and others, concerning certain lands in Ngaroto Parish." (20th July, 1949.)
