TUESDAY, MAY 13, 1856. 1. The House met pursuant to adjournment; Mr. Speaker and thirty members being present • Mr, Speaker read prayers and took the chair. 2. Petition of Alexander Brown :—Mr. Lee presented a petition from Alexander Brown, showing how he had served as a volunteer with H. M. Troops during the conflicts with the natives in the North of New Zealand, that he had been severely wounded, the effects of his wound incapacitating him from gaining a livelihood, and praying the House to take his case into its favourable consideration. Petition received, read, and ordered to be printed. 3. Messages .-—The following Messages from his Excellency the Governor received and read (1.) Lager dated Ist April, 1856, on the subject of certain Special Scrip being part of that issued by Governor Sir George Grey in or about September, 1853, of the value of fifty pounds sterling, to each of the fifteen Native Chiefs named in the Schedule annexed to the enclosed copy of a Circular, from the Civil Secretary to Commissioners of Crown Lands dated 12th September, 1853. In accordance with the 65th clause of the New Zealand Constitution Act, the Governor transmits for the information of the House of Reprsentatives the undermentioned accounts of Disbursements.
