Mr Mildmay (to Major Thompson, who has been compelled to leave the ball early) : ‘ Just allow me to introduce you to a lady before yon go.’ Major Thompson : ‘ A lady ? I have not time.’ Mr Mildmay : ‘ But it is my wife.’ Major Thompson : ‘ Your wife ! That’s different. I thought yon said a lady.’
