THE P.C.A. SOCIETY.

TO THE EMTOR. Sir, —I noticed on Saturday, m the Saleyards, the Inspector of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who was cautioning people about tying fowls' legs, and mentioned that there was a penalty of 5s |>er pair for any fowls so tied m the future. Now, sir, as there are many persons who are ignorant of this, 1 think it is only proper that the Society should make it known, through the papers or otherwise, so as not to catch them all unawares. It should also be mentioned m what way fowls are to be brought to sales and taken away, and what penalties people are liable to for different offences should also be stated. I quite concur with the objects of the Society, and regard its operations as very necessary ; for every week, at ane place or another, you can see instances of cruelty, such as cows being taken to saleyards with milk flowing from their udders as they walk, —more, I suppose, to take people m than for anything else. Then, again, pigs can be seen taken to market with their legs all bound tightly together, the poor animals having perhaps been brought many miles m this manner. It should also be insisted upon that animals and fowls brought to the Saturday Bales should be cleared out the same day after the sale, instead of being left until the Monday, perhaps uncared-for. By inserting these few lines you will oblige.— Your*, etc., Looker-on.
