The Direct Veto Convention.

♦ ' TBR PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington, July 5. The Women's Christian Temperance Union entertained the delegates to the Direct Veto Convention to breakfast this morning. Mr E. Withy, of Auckland, presided. Among those present were the Rev. F. W. Isitt, Messrs Saunders, Harknes?, Meredith, and McLean, M.H.B/s ; and Madame Antionette Sterling. After breakfast, the Chairman referred to the loss the temperance cause had sustained .by the death of Sir William Fox Rev. E. Walker, Organising Secretary of the "New Zsaland Alliance spoke, saying they did not intend to rest until. the Direct Veto Bill now in the House had been passed. They felt hopeful, because public opinion had very greatly changed during recent years, and even months, and it was astonishing how the movement had progressed. At the Direct Veto Convention it was decided that a deputation, consisting of delegates and others, should interview the Premier on temperance matters.
