Ariel Bicycle Club's Meeting.
Notwithstanding the biroug wind loday there was * large gathering t • witnese the sports j..r. moted l>y the above Club, a large proportion of the spectators being ladies. The Club's arrangements appeared to be satisfactory, the secretary, Mr ,7. Miiiler, and Mr F. Clark bavins, wtth the rest of the officials, worked hard to that end. A nasty accident occurred in the Maiden, three competitors coming down, and although the riders were soon pretty right, two of the machines were smashed up. Following are results up to time of going to press : — One Mile Maiden Handicap ; first prize £2. second £I—VV. J. Allen, 90yds, 1; W. Woodf>> 95yds, 2; J. T. Andrews, 90yds, 3. Burns, Henderson, Hawkins, and Couch fell. Half Mile Bicycle Handicap j first prize £2, second £1. —First Heat. —A. W. Joas, 50ydp, 1; T. G. Jamieeon, 100 yds, 2 ; E. Stace, 70yds, 3 Time- 1.15. Second Heat.—Ken Lewis, Bcr, 1 ; A. R. Barker, 30yds, 2; E. S. Rainbow, 80yds, 3. Time—l.ls. Final.—A W Joss 1, Rainbow 2, Jamie* son 3. Time—l.l 6. Two -Mil b Roadster Handicap ; first prize, £2; second, £I.—J, Rapson, 165 yds, 1 ; W. Woods, 245 yds, 2; J. T. Andrews, 245 yds, 3t ; E. P. March, 235 yds, 3t. A good race. Woods cut out the running at a great pace, but Rapson was let in too light by far ; dead heat for third place. Time- 5.36£. One Milb Bicycle Handicap. First prize, £2 10d j second, £1. First heat.— Jno. Wilson, 170 yds, 1; Ken Lewis, tcr, 2;J.Boyd, scr, 3. Wilson led all the way but Foyd and Lewis did nob hurry themselves till the last lap, which must have been run in record time. Time— 2.39£. Second Heat.—J. Rapson, Tssyds, 1; T. Clarkson, 50yds, 2 ; A. R. Barker, 60yds, 3. Jas. Wilson led for threequarters of a mile when Rapson went to the front and won with any amount iv hand. Time—2.3s£. 150 Yards Handicap Foot Race. First Priaj, £1 10a; second, 15s.—R. Todd, 12yds, 1 ; M. T. Healy, 13yds, 2 ; T. Patterson, 15yds, 3. Time—ls 3-srh. Five Mile Championship of New Zealand. First prize £2 and Sold Medal value £3 3s ; seoond, £2 ; third, £1 - Ken Lewis 1, J. Boyd 2, T, Clarkson 3. Won by a whe 1. Time—lst mile, 3.4 ; 2nd mile, 3.14 ; 3rd mile, 2.58 ; 4th mile, 2.51 ; sch mile, 2 46£ ; for the distance 14.53 J.
