James Hogan was charged with assaulting Kate Gillies, so as to cause her actual bodily harm. Evidence was given that the._ accused went home drunk, and" struck the woman on the head with. considerable force. The accused said that, it was only a family quarrel, and that the woman received the wound jthrough falling against a form or some such -. thing. He was fined £3 and costs, in default a month's imprisonment. , ; . INDECENT BATHING Henry George- Rodger -was convicted and ordered to pay costs on a charge of bathing at Howick without any covering on him. It was stated that there were many people on the beach, at the time, and that the accused was under the influence of liquor. • A SERIOUS . CHARGE. Frank Tole was remanded for a week on a charge of unlawfully- carnally knowing -a girl of 14 years tat Newmarket. ■•••-„
