BIG FIRE IN SYDNEY.
BUSINESS PEACES DESTROYED. EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. (Received 0.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. __ Fire destroyed Messrs. Marcus Clarke's Newtown branch. The premises, which were extensive, were devoted to furniture and drapery. The damage is estimated at £80,000. There are conflicting reports regarding the extent of the damage by the fire. Fifteen shops and other premises adjacent to Clarke's were partially i destroyed, making the approximate damage much more costly than was previously estimated.— ('A. and N.Z.)
