IRISH LINEN TRADE.

Tlie Irish linen industry, according- to a report from Belfast, is making progress towards recovery. About 7.000.000 more yards of linen were exported during the first eight months of the present year than In the corresponding period of 1922. the total of the first-mentioned term being 39,497.200 yards, the greater portion being supplied by the North of Ireland. Shipments to Australia increased from 3.25G.100 yards to 5,375,600 yards, and to Xew Zealand from 731.100 yards to 1.081,500 yards. The Belfast correspondent of the "Financial Times" says that Australia, Xew Zenland and South .Africa, as well as some of the South American republics, have been impressed by the utility and good wearing quality of linen dress material, which is available now in such a large variety of design and quality. More orders for the material arc coming from these countries, but the United States is still the largest market. There has been a steady improvement in the demand from the Dominions for better-class household linen, and cnt prices are now offered in this department. There is a regrettable tendency to meet the lower price necessity with goods made from mixed yarns, and buyers would be well advised to insist upon the "all linen" article, even at a slightly higher- price, as they are guaranteed greater service by the better quality. Irish flax of the new season crop is coming into the market at prices ranging from 10/ li to 15/ per stone.
