PREMIER BOWLS CONTEST.
THE RINK CHAMPIONSHIP. FIRST OAT'S RESULTS. POSITIONS OF AUCKLAND TEAMS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. What is considered to be the premier bowling contest of the Dominion, the Rink championship, attracted a great deal of interest to-day. In contrast to the weather experienced on the proceeding four days of the tournament the conditions were cool and pleasant. The greens were again in perfect order, having benefited by the Tain early yesterday It is significant that the holders of the championship, Ponsonby (R- Somervell, J. Hosking, F. Casey. A. Parsons, skip), are not defending the title this year. The Auckland players have not commenced overwell, not one of the four rinks having won the two games played, while the Remuera team skipped by Daniels has been beaten twice in the first round. The following were the fortunes of Auckland players. West End, Auckland (Hill, Ure, Maher. Brcmner) 30, v. St. Kilda (T. Peacock, P. Edwards. W. Jacobsen, H. S. Meaton) 22. Wellington (H. Plimmer, W. Grenfell, A. Duncan, Spotler) 27, v. St. Helier's, Auckland (F. Trice. J. C. White, K. L. Brookfield, J. C. Hill) 10. Beckenham (X. Layer, E. Dann, W. Travis, H. Firman) 22. v. Remuera (__ M. McCallum, C. W. Garrard, H. McLaren. J. Wooler) 15. Grevmouth (T. Brebner, J. Brisland, W. Graham, J. Steer) 25, v. Remuera (L. Macev, F. Newton, R. Kinvig, E. E. Daniels) 24. In the second round West End, 1", were beaten by Linwood. 33; St. Helier's, 28, defeated 6p«wa, 24; Remuera (skip Wooler), 25, defeated Timaru, 16; and the Remuera team skipped by Daniels went under to Edge ware, 27. Wylie (Kaiapoi), Monk (Kaiapoi Workingmen's Club, Woolf (Christchurch). Allen (Seatoun), Dolbbs (St. Albans). Ainger (New Brighton), Waltos (Petone), Firman (Beckenham), Marks (United), Redpath (Canterbury), Spiller (Sydenham). Stephens (Kelburn), Mitchell (Svdenham).
