China ‘seeks to close trade gap’
PA Wellington China would like to close the trade gap with New Zealand, a spokesman for a visiting trade delegation has said. China had a number of products which it could sell to close the gap, said Mr Zheng Hungyem, vice-chair-man of the China Council for the Promotion of Trade. These included machinery, electrical goods, ocean-going ships, chemical products, ana hydro-electric equipment. A delegation from the council, the main organisation in China for the promo-
tion of foreign trade, is on a two-week visit to New Zealand at the invitation of the New Zealand-China Trade Association. Mr Zheng said that China wanted to learn, about New Zealand agriculture. The delegation would visit farms. “We want to improve our skills in the areas of farm management, the manufacturing of chemical pesticides, and in animal husbandry,” he said. The delegation of three will talk to Government leaders and officials while in Wellington.
