NEWMARKET LITERACY ASSOCIATION.
The first meeting of the third session of the Newmarket Literary Association was held in the Presbyterian School-room, Newmarket, on Tuesday evening. The members were occupied in transacting the financial business of the Society, electing office-bearers, and receiving the report of the secretary and treasurer, which was unanimously adopted. The Rev. E. H. Heywood was reelected president j James Baber, Esq., vicepresident ; Mr. Pearce, secretary and treasurer; and Messrs. Hogg, Turner, and Oaborne, committee of management. It was agreed to set apait some of the funds for the purchase of monthly periodicals. This is a step in the right direction. It would, no doubt, be a great boon to the inhabitants of Newmarket, if a public library were formed in conjunction with the above Association.
The relative posHiona of th« French and Prussian troops, al the date of the Latest telegrams, will be found indicated on the large map at our publishing office, Queenstreet.
