Earlv tliis morning Hastings was cnveloped in a very dense fog, whieli completely obseured visiou beyond a distance of about 50 yards. Ihe fog gradually tliinned out as tlie morning wore on, but it was well on towards n ino o'cloek before the last traces of it disappcaved.
