EXCELLENT DOUBLE BILL AT MAJESTIC.
Another of those capacity Saturday night audiences that have come to he recogniscd as the usual thing qt that favourite liouse of entertainment was again in evidence at the popular Majestic on Saturday night, when an excelleut double screenic hill was presented. First on the list was tlie big Fox special, "Romance of the Underworld," a virtual sequel to that liighly successful film, "Dressed to Ivill," which found such favour with Napier audiences. This picture can he honestly recomnfended to picture lovers as a realjy first-class production and oue of wliich the like will prohahl.v never be seen again. The plot itself is unique. The picture-goer has the opportunity of filling the role of lookeron while the night life of New York's
underworld, depicted in vivid reality by the producer, unfolds before hirn. The story is that of a girl who is iorced to make lier living as an entertainer in a low dance liall, but who redeems herself in a cleaner environment- and meets and marries a good man. She is, liowever, ever in fear of a. former acquaintance, "Derbv Dan," pliilanderer, thief and blackguard. Only the help of a friendly detective saves her from ruin, and the mr.nrier in which this latter cheeiy iudividual disposes of "Derhy Dan" is opo of the hrightest spots in a very fine. Ililin. iMai-y Astor fills the role of tho girl, the niain figure in this scnsational story, and fills it remarkably well too. Robert Elliott gives a really niagiiificent characterisation as the detective. while Ben Bard is con-vinc-ing in the role of the wastrel, "Derhy Dan." The picture is one that will make screenic history in its own sphere. Miss Astor's worlc stamps hcr as an actress of even finer calibre than liad been snspected. The second splendid fcature. "Morgan's Last Reign," stars the dehonair Tim iilcCoy in a typical role, and is. in fact,t a tvpical McGoy picture, paeked with action and tlirilLs from start to finish. Supports on a high scale included another episode of the pojiular "Collcgians" series. a clever comedy, and tlie usual topicals. The Majestv Svmphony Orchestra was again in evidence, rendering an excellent programme of incidental music.
