RAIN INTEllFERES WITH BOWLS. SPACKMAN SHIELD MATCH. The-game of bowls on Saturday was generally interfered with by rain. The post isectional play of the tournamcnt liad been postponed from tlie previops Monday, wlien rain had interfered, anj it was again deemed necessary to postpone it. On the Napier green tlie home pair, Wardell Johnston and E. Bissell, stalled off a challenge for the Spackman Sliield by J. Johnson and W. Forsyth. Englebretsen's rink, Napier, defeatcd MeKee. Hastings, 19 — 17. To suit the convenience of some of the memliers of the teams interested, McLeay, Port Ahuriri, played his match against Bewley, Hastings, being defeated, 20 — 19, after an interesting game. AT PORT AHURIRI. Six rinks were engagecl at the Port Ahuriri green, when heavy rain eaused play to be abandoned. In the championsliip singles, F. Logan, _J. Johnson and W. Forsyth have eight wins to their credit, while R. Smith, R. Boyd and J. McCarthy have been successful in seven games. The competition will now be decided between the first three, tlie .draw being : Logan meets Johnson, Forsyth meeting the winner. Logan is the only player who succeeded in getting all his games and his success as a young player is very pleasing. THE NAPIER CLUB. In spite of the rain, the Napier green played wel'l, the results of ordinary games played being as follows : — , Ivilpatrick, Goqdger, Wright, Renouf (s), 25; Wliitehouse, Cooke, Williomson. La Roche, Burrows, Holroyd, Hill (s), 26; McGrath, McNiven, J. D. Cainpbell, Leversedge (s), 23. WAIRERE CLUB. Four cluh riulc games were played on the Wairere green, resulting as follows : — I L. Wood, Gihson, Rose, McGregor (s), 26; J. 'Black, Neill, Rood, F, Avling (s), 14. W. Bendall, Bruton. Pallot, Watson (s), 33; Bayliffe, Cook, J. P. Thomson, Benton (s), 11. McLean, Smale, Oliver, P. Bear s), 15; Douglas, Richards, Cotterill, RThomas (s), 21. A great deal of interest centred round the "Boots v. Rags" game plaved between the following rinks : — "Boots" : Baxter, Ellison, Wray, Gregg (s) ; "Rags" : llowe, O'Keefe, R. V. Thomas, Burt (s). At tlie outset of the game it ]ookecl as though the soft-goods quartette intended to run away from tlie footwear four, as on tlie "fifth liead the score was nine to nil against "Boots," who. liowever, pulled themselves together with a six on tlie sixtli liead, therehy reducing the margin to a narrowness which characterised the bnlance of the game. tho score on the 17th head being 18 to 17 in favour of "Rags," as a result of a couple of excellent drives hy Gregg, the skip of the "Boots." The scrtre on the 20th liend was 23 to 20, and although tlie leather vendors fouglit valiantly to pull up the four required to win, tlie tide ran against them, and tlie game finished in favour of the drapers hy a margin of four points — 24 to 20 .
