SPORTS AND G ARDEN PARTY. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT RISSINGTON. In spite of tlie weather 011 Saturday, a number of people came from Puketitiri, Patoka, Puketapu, and tliere were even visitors from Napier, Hastings and Havelock at the garden party given at Omatua, Rissington in aid of the Scout funds. The first hour and 'a lialf passed in sports, the winners of the motor raccs heing Messrs Orr and Angus and Miss Wright; the sliepherd's horse, dog aiid equipmeut went to Mr F. Howcll, and the V.C. rac© to Miss T_ . ' Wright. The winner of the chiklren's butterfly liunt was little Miss Byrne. Owing to the doubtful weather, the handicraft stall, filled with beautiful samples of work, was placed in the house, and excellent saies resulted. Tlie produce stall was well stocked, and everytliing was sold out by the end of the afternoon. The white elepliant stall had all kinds of unusual things, which speedily fcund new owners. A delicious tea was served expeditiously hy those in chargo. Tces ^were well patronised, and with the extra attraction of sliees of melon the young people were kept very liappy. Much interest was sliown in a cardboard ladder niarked to £50, with a cardboard Scout climbing up to show how much monev was taken during the day. He reached the top and hcgan a fresh climb, not stopping until lie triumphantly placed his foot 011 the £57 step. Later tea was available at Mrs Woodward's for those who stayed hehind for the entertaiuiiient, organised by Mr Cooksey at the hall in the evening. An excellent progi'arame was given hv Messrs Byrne, Wood, Absolom and "Wood ward. Mr Cottrell, of Napier, ouerated lantern slides on the Scout movement, which were explainOd by Mr Cooksey. The Napier Scouts gave a dramatie sketcli, and £9 ls 4d were added to the funds. In all £66 ls 4d was the total revenue for funds of the ■movement.
