PRIVATE BILL POSSIBLE. MR F. LYE OFFERS SUPP0RT. MORRINSVILLE, April 6.. Tlie half-holiday question was again discussed at tlie montbly nieeting of Morrinsville Cbaniber of t'ommerce last evening. Mr F. Lye, M.F., said there would never be unanimity on the issue until a day was fixed by Parliament. Personally be would favour Saturday elosing if it was universal, but it was at present uni'air tbat one town sbould close.on a Saturday afternoon and an adjacent oue take its trade by remaining open. Tbis was tlie position between Cambridge aud Te Awamutu. and Morrinsville and To Aroha. Ha was eonvincod that a mother witb school children would not wasto a mid-week dav if there was a town witliin reasonabls distance oyien 011 Saturday. wbile tbe lit up shops earried tbeir own appeal. There was notliing surer than tliat wliere ad- ( jacent towns were open 011 differing days tlie bulk of tbe farmers' trade went to tbe town open 011 Saturday. I11 answer to a question Mr Lye said he would be quite prejiared to raise tlie question in Parliament and to "fatber" a bill. Tlio cbaniber decided to write to tbe Associated Cbamhcrs asking it to autborise all members to c-nlist tlieiv support towards getting Parliament to take action.
