CITY C'OUNCIL MEETING. GENERAL ITDMTNTSTRATTVE BUSINESS. Tlie first confercncc of that body snic-e before tlie holiday period was field bv the Napier City Council last rught, when the Mayor, Mr J. Vigov Lrown, ju'csirled over an attendance of Crs. R. W. Goodger. J. C. Brvant, C. D Cox, J. St. J. Hindmarsh. P. F. Higgins, E. Rice, A. E. Bedford, C. H. YYilkie, "\V. G. Ylartin and H. J. riarman. The Napier branch of tlio W.E.A. asked that the usual grant be made toward its funds, £15 heing granted. The Municipal Association asked the council for its support in a movement to oppo.se anv reduction in motor taxation, especinll.v lieavy traflic ficense fees, the matter being referreu to the finance eommittee. Mrs M. A. McDougall wrote drawing attention to the necessity for impioving Kowhai road, the matter being referred to the rbad.s committee. F. N. Ilunt asked that limestone sancl be placed on Onepoto Gully, tho question being referred to the reserves committee. Tlie Napier Hockey Association applied for three playing areas on Nelson T'ark for this season, tlie matter heing icferred to the reserves committee. The Hawke's Bav Rughy Union apphecl for the use of McLean Park and three grounds on Nelson Park, this being also referred to the reserves committee, who are to confer with the union representatives on the location of the Iatter areas. Tlie council decided that the -new feotpath on IMcGrath street be constructed eight feet instead of six feefc. PETITIONS. A petition signed by twelve residents of Thompson road asking that provsion he made in the estimates for a. 5ft. footpath was referred to the roads and reserves committee, to whoni tlie horough engineer will report. Better lighting facilities at Pandora Foint and at tfie hitnmen plant were asked for in ajretition signed by the residents of Main street Onepoto Gully, and referred to the engineer for a report. A number of residents of Nelson Crescent complained of the miisance c-reated by soot and smoke from a factorv, and the matter was referred i o the roads and reserves committee. Several hunc|red reisidents of Taradale in a petition appealed against the injustice meted out to them by the restrictions placed on the running of YY. J. Calderwood's b"us service. They asked that the privilege of a convenient service lie restored to them.^ The council referred the petition to its next meeting as the licensing authority.
