At the Hastings l'olice Coui't this morning before ^lessrs A. A. Georgc and Foster Brook, J's.P., a 10-year-old youth nained Jack Hall, was charged with betwecn Fcbruary 17 aiul Marcli 17, at Hastings, breaking and catering the dwelling liouse of C'arl Pedersen and stealing a gold ring. watcli cluain and pendant and surcingle, valued at £-5 10s. the property of C'arl Pedersen. Detective Farquharson prosecuted, Mr T. O'Dowd appearing for accused. C'arl Pedersen -stated lu* lived in W'all road, Hastings. When a friend canie to inquire oue day concerning a saddle, witness noticed that the goods mentioned were niissing. He reported the matter to tlie police. Later, he saw accused wearing a watcli chain which looked likc tiic oue which \vas niissing. Accused liad been working ncar witness' house. To Mr O'Dowd: He coukl not remcinher the date. the articles were takeii. The.v miglit bavc bcen gone some weeks before he misscd them. C'onstahlc P. Witness took accused and lds niate, a man named Kelly, to Pederscn's liouse and tliere Pedersen ident i liccl accused as the man lu liad seen weaving tlie chain. Accused again denicd that he liad ever liad a chain. Accused stated that he liad bought tlie surcingle at. Briggs'. Latcr. however, accused fraiiklv :ulinitted that he had taken the articles and signed a .stateinent t° that effect. This concluded thc evidcnce.. The accused nleaded guilty and was committcd to thc Suprcnie Court at Nanicr for sciitcnce. Bail was allowcd in accused for £100, with a suroty oi :i siniilar ainouiit.
