I REPORT TO BE PRESENTED. 1 j A reminder is given to menibers of tlie Hastings Orphans CJuh that tlie , annual nieeting will be held in tlic t Hastings Assembly Hall to-niorrow j night at S o'clock. The lollowing anj nual report is to he presented : — j "Tlie executive lias limcli pleasure j :n stating that the 1928 season was j most sufcessful, eonstituting a record i iu the cluh's history. "During the year 100 new members were elected, as against 48 for tlie previous period, and after allowing toi" resignations tlie club roll closed with a memhersliip of 208. comprising 2 life hon. niemhers, 33 orchestra, 245 members, heing an iiicrea.se on last year of 76 members. "The incomo and expenditure account discloses a nett profit for tlie scason of £77 12s lld, as against £'J8 2s 4d for last season — a gain of £59 10s 7d, wliile the balance slieefc shows Burplus assets ovcr liahilitics of £152 17s 9d, as against £73 4s lOd — an in creasc of £79 12s lld. "Two ladies' niglits were held during tlie year — tlie first being particularl v successful — tlie attcnclnnces being estimatcd at hctwecn 000 and 700. Tlie attendances at each of the 12 koreros was cxccllcnt, keen interest heing displayed hy members riglit throughout tjie year. "The cluh generously and gladly a.ssisted in supplying the programmes tc.v local eliaritahle concerts. and, 111 addition, produced a musical comedy — 'Ihe Lazy R' — which met with tremendons success. This comedv, which was written hy Past Chief Orphan FI. G. Dnvies, reflected gi'eat credit on those Orphans who were mainly responsihlo for its successful presentation, viz., Orphans Davies, Fail and Poppelwell. Our tlianks, too. are due to all the Orphans represented in the cast, and the orchestra. Tlic encore performance 111 aid of tlie Red Cross Fund aiul the Hastings Band, niet with spontancous sujiport Troin the public, wliicli was most gratifying to tliose concerned. "Tlie tlianks of tlie club are due to His Worship tlie Mavor for tlie use of 1ns office for executive meetings, Orphan Bewley and his double quartette, to Orphan W. Lord, tlie club's very ahlc pianist, to Orphan O. Tong, I'ci1 his presentation to the club of a \erv handsonie conductor's platform, to Orplian A. E. Palmer, who, as the cluh's nuditor, kecps us 'in step,' and to all those members who from time to time have placed their cars at tlie disposal of the cluh during the season, to tliose niemhers who made such handsome additions to the orchestra's library, to Messrs Rainbow and Hohbs for their generous help in connection with tlie accounts and balance slieet oi 'The Lazy it,' and to the Press for their never-failing tact and courtesv. To the members of our splendid orchestra we are once again placed under deep obligation, and the tlianks of the cluh go out to Orplian Brvant and his band as a personal tribute from every member. "Your executive feels that it cannot let this opportunity pass of plac-ing on record tlie high appreciation it feels toi tlie very ahlc and dignified manner in wliicli Chief Orphan G. A. Maddison has filled the cliair and cqnducte.d tlie business of the cluh during his tcrm of officc. His unfailing tact and natural courtesv has endeared liim to 115 all, and he lias always evinced the liigliest conception of liis office as Chief Orplian, botli to tlie club and to tlie members generally, and it is a matter of extreme regrct tliat he finds it impc ssihle to preside again as our cliiel for tlie 1929 season."
