At the anuual meeting of houscholders in tho Napier Central School, over which tho Rcv. J. A. Asher presidcd, tlic following were declared duly o.'ectcd to tlic committee: — Aiessrs L. Pickcring (ciiainnan), T. H. 11. Gifford (treasiirer), 11. Gregg, P. R. Amner, F. Crav, H. 11. liorsncll, E. Hyde, G. A. Peake, and F. Thorpe. In opening tho meeting, the chairman congratulated Air Pickering, the cliairmau, and tho members of the retiring committeo upon tlie manner iii which thcv liad tacklod tho question of iinproving and beautifying the grounds of tho scliool. Tlie new entrance gates were a most imposing entrance to the school and a eredit to all concerned in their erection. Tho chairmaii then formally moved tlie adoption of the report, as already publislicd, and tlie balance sheet, which, with a eredit balance of £0 9s, showed that the suin of £252 had been spent in ground improvements durmg the year. I11 seconding tho adoption of tho report, Air J. Clark Thomson congratulated the school upon the excellent results in the rccent proficieney examinations. Alention had been made oi tlie beautiful surroundings of tlie school and he could say that all the visiting school inspectors had had nothing but praise for tlie situation and surroundings of tlie Napier Central School. The headmnster, Air J. Hislop, p inted out that of tlie 57 pupils who had passed their proficieney this year, 50 were continuing with secondary education, wliicli. he considered was a most important point. Tlie chairman of the retiring committee, Air L. Pickering, also spoke to the motion. thankino; the previous speakers for tlie remarks made about the committee and assuring them that they would do their very best in tbe coming year to add to their work in the past year.
