THE AERO PAGEANT

INNOVATION AT HASTINGS. HAWKE'S BAY AERO CLUB'S GATHERING. At tHe Hawke's Bay Aero Club's aerodrome at Paki Paki on Saturday next , the club's first grand air pageant will be held, when planes will compete in a programme that should be full of excitement. The first event is timed to start at 12.45 p.m.. and from then until 4.30 spectators will be treated to exhibitions of flying that have never before been witnessed in this district. A tremendous amount of interest has already been created in the district by the flights of the club's own plane, but to be able to see nine others in flight as well is an opportunity that will not occur very often, and the Aero Club is assured of having hundreds of people at its grounds on Saturday afternoon. The ground preparations are now almost completed. and the club will need only fine weather to make its first pageant a great success. Among the distinguishecl visitors who will be present will be the Minister of Defence (the Hon. T. M. Milford), the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (patron of the club), and the director of air services. The pageant will first be officially opened and then the memorial slab in the centre of the landing ground will be unveiled and the club's flag unfurled. After this the club's machine will be christened. Arrangements have been made for the parking of cars on the ground. No cars will be permitted to park outside the ground. There will be representatives from clubs all over New Zealand, from as far north as Whangarei and as far south as Otago. The following machines will take part in the pageant:— N.Z. Permanent Air Force : Capt. J. L. Findlay. D.H. Moth; Capt. S. Burrell, Bristol Fighter. Auckland Aeroplane Club : Major K. Caldwell, Major G. A. Cardogan Cowper, Capt. J. Seabrook, Capt. D. Harkness, Capt. E. Dixon, Capt. W. S. R. Bloomfield, all D.H. Moths. Hamilton Airways Ltd. : Capt. M. C. McGregor, D.H. Moth. Air Survey and Transport Co. : Messrs D. Mill and J. Smith, D.H. Moths. Marlborough Aero Club: Capt. N. E. Chandler. D.H. Moth. Canterbury Aero Club : Capt. B. Mercer, D.H. Moth. Goodwin Chichester Ltd. : Capt. G. Bolt and Lieut. Lett, Avro-Avian. Capt. K. Hall: Avro-Avian. The programme is made up as follows : — N.Z. Light Aeroplane Blue Ribbon, for cup presented by Mr D. H. Newbigin, course of approximately 25 miles in view of aerodrome. Taxi past, fly past and landing competition, for cup presented by Mrs W. G. Stead. All transport race, for cup presented by Mrs W. Richmond. " Slow aeroplane race, for cup presented by Mr S. J. McKee. Car bombing competition for watch presented by Mr Mason-Chambers. The trophy known as the Kessell Proficiency Cup will be awarded, for machine and pilot gaining the most points during the whole of the pageant.
