LIVE B1RD SEASON OPEXED. HAWKE'S BAY CENTRAL GUN CLUB. Considerable interest was taken in the opening shoot of the live bird season, lield at tlie grounds of tlie Hawke's Bay Central Gun Club, wlien speeial matclies were lield. Seventeeii shooters faced the traps, and competition was very keen. Naturally, this being the first shoot of its kind for close on twelve liionths, misses were very prevalent. AVeather conditions, liowever, were ideal, and tlie afternoon proved an excellent oue. Mrs E. Groome acted as lioste.ss for tlie shoot, Mr T. V. Alorrin fulfilling the role of rel'eree. Tlie birds were strong and very quick. A ten-bird open liandicap, witli the full field of shooters, resulted in T. Parker (20yds.), J. G. Parker (17), J. McKinnon (18) and E. Groome (20) seeuring tlie possible of 10 kiils and dividing the money. B. Cargill (19), J. Mills (19), and H. Alartin (15) secured nine birds eacli ; T. V. Alorrin (16), 8; J. Whittle (17), J. N.. AYalker (15). 7 birds eacli: H. Ellis (20), H. R. Horsncll (17), H. M. AJickie (15), Chris. Tait (16), R. Crawford (17), 6 birds each : P. Barker (15), 5 birds; R. Howell (15), 4 birds. A five-bird sweepstake resulted in B. Cargill (18yds.), J. Mills (18), J. G. Parker (16), R. Crawford (16), and J. McKinnon (17), each with five birds, dividing the monev. E. Groome (20), 'P. Barker (15), E. V. Morrin (16), J. Whittle (17), H. Martin (15), T. Barker (15), and H. Ellis (18) each secured four birds ; T. Parker (20), H. M. Mickie (15), three birds; J. N. Walker and C. Golding (15), two birds. The afternoon finished with a fourliircl sweepstake, T. Parker, E. Groome J. Whittle. H. M. Mickie, 'H. Ellis and Chris. Tait dividing with all birds accounted for. Otlier shooters secured three and two birds each.
