SOLVING UNEMPLOYMENT
Per Press Association.
.WHAT LIBBRAL GOVERNMENT HAS DOXE.
AUCKLAND. Tliis day. Speaking at the Eden Chaniber, the sHon. A. J. Slalhvorth said that unemployment was a matter in which all should co-operate. There ivas relatiyely £9.000,(KX> idle in the banks, wliicli mad© it clear that many eilizens wero r.ot pulling tlieir weight in- an cffort to get baek to a general prospcrity. A "g© slow" or a strike policy on the part of capital could be just as pernicious as oi her policies. Tlie Government did no-t want to interfere with legitimate private enterprise, hut there was a responsibilitv on private capital to get the Dominion out of its present difficulties. Although recovery was slow the Governmont was doing its utmost to improve the position. Immigration had heon stopped for the timo heing, and over £2.000,000 had been liberated to give the countrv a- now conlidence and an active Piiblic "Works policy was heing pursued. It was fair to assunie that had there not been a radical cliange of policy by the new Government, the unemployed position would liave heon verv much worse than it was to-day. There was a retnrning spirit of eptimisni, based on the progressive liberal policy.
