CHRISTCHURCH. This day. 'A cliarge of negligently driving a rnotor car on Marcli 31 , tliereby cansing the death of Maureen Doris Mitchell, was prcferred against Joiin Royd Claris, in the Christchurch Magistrate's Court. The case arose out of a eollision of a inotor car with a post at the Clock Tower interseetion in the earlv liours ot Sunday, Marcti 81. Aliss Mitchell, who was in the car, tiied sliort Iy after the eollision. C'ec-il Spencer Penlington, a solicitor, who was in the car at the time, said that his last recollection of that night was at 12.7 a.m., wlien he was in the annexe lounge at Dixieland. He did not remember getling into the car. His next recollection was wlien he recovered eonsciousness in the hospital Magistrate : Is there any suggestion of liquor? Deteetive-Sergeant Young: Xo. The Magi.strate (to witness) : Wero all the members of the party soberP "Yes," replied'* the witness. Other wllnesses gave evidence that the car syemed to be going at a fast speed .
