HASTINGS DOWN CELTIC
A RUNAWAY RUGBY VICTORY, GRENSIDE'S DAY OUT, At Nelson Park, Hastings, in a game that was full of incident, Hastings scored a run-away win over Celtic. For the Yellows, the Mill-Grenside combination was agaih on top, Creeside having a day out and scoring six tries. Hastings kicked off against a slight breeze and from the first scrum they set up a solid attack, from which Celtic forced. Celtic retaliated, pressing Hastings hard, but the Yellows cleared, onlv to he driven back by a penalty kick. From centre, Mill broke away and his pass went out to Grenside, but the latter was downed. Tn the eusuing scramble, tlie ball went behin 1 and Grenside beat Rose in the race and scored an easy try. Grenside failed with the kick. Hastings attacked again, but when in the danger zone were penalised for holding on, and the Greens cleared Good in-and-out passing between Fitzgerald and Eddy looked likely for Celtic, but one of tlie passes went forward. Potaka appeared for Celtic afc this stage, and his presence helped tn make tliiqgs willing for the Yellows, but tbe defence was not at fault. Hastings cleared and attacked, and then eame a brilliant try. Hingston secured from a scrum and passed to Mill, to Beutli, to Sheppard, vlio each beat a man and left Grenside to go over practically unmarked Rcach failed to add tlie extra points. Hastings 6 Celtic 0 Hastings attacked again, and Grenside got a great opening but was ob strueted. Celtic were penalised and Rcach placed a nice goal. Hastings then pre.ssed and from a scrum near the line Mill moved up to lialf. He secured, beat three men, and got the ball to Pearson, _ who crcssed. Roach converted with a dandy kick. Hastings continued to hold the upper hand, Celtic finding it difficult to keep tlieir line intact, and just on lialftime Grenside added to his total with another fine try. Roach's kick went low. Hastings 17 Celtic 0 The opening of tlie second sped founcl Hastings again in an offensive ltiood, but off-side play spoilt a great cliance. A brilliant dribbbling boutby the Hastings forwards was stopped iiv Rose marking. A great line kici, by Potaka put tlie Greens on attack, but they were driven back and from a line-out Grenside secured and dashed over in the corner. Roach again failed to goal. Celtic pressed hard, but failed tc push the attack home, atid Hastings retaliated, and from a rush in the Green 25 Beuth ran through. Fisher easily goaled. Almost immediately Grenside secured at mid-way and ran right through to score under the bar. Roach missed an easy kick. Centre play followed, and then a bad miss by Eddy left an easy opening foGrensicle to score his sixth try. _ Mil1 converted and time was called with the final score : — Hastings 33 Celtic ... 0 Mr A. Kirkpatrick held the whistle.
