With the floods liaving receded suflicicntly to clear tlio road at the Waitangi, a through passage from Napiei- to Hastings hy road \yas effected via Havelock this morning. The raihvay buses and tlie taxi services in consequence resuined their usual schedule and a large amount of trafiic used i the road during tlie day. One of the drivers on the road this morning told a pressman tliat the surface in the area that liad hcen under water, while naturnlly a little rough, was far better than lie had expected it to be. Several other nrterial roads in tho country have been opened up. Tlie hroaking of the bridgo at Rissington blocked tlio main N a pi e r-P 11 k e ti ti ri 1 road, but it is now possihle to reach j Puketitiri via Waihau. ! Tlie Riverbend road and also» the Pakowhai road from Hastings to Taradale were also reported as open to traffic this morning.
