To tbe Editor. Sir,— Our City Fathers are receiving the appreciation and admiration of the eitizens for the valuable aud useful lniprovements they affect to our city on behalf of the public, such as widen-i-.ig roads and other useful and beautitvmg work, and are ever ready to derend tliem against undue criticism. However, when they try to appear "big" >in small things, such as economising a few hundred pounds a year, at the sacrifice of public convonience and safety, it becomes niggsrdly and the public will not stand for it. or, to put it mildly, will not appreciate their efforts at economy. It is, however, questionahle whether^ even at the sacrifices mentioned, an_ ineffieient service will show a eaving to justify the introduction of a "one man tram." — I am, etc..
