AIAORI GETS A YEAR'S GAOL. X1XETEEX CHARGES PREFERltED
GISBORNE. Last night. Oue year's imprisonment with hara lahour ivas imposed by Alr P. H. Harper, S.M.. on a Maori named Rawliiri Wharchenga, 24 years of age, who pleaded guilty to nineteen charges of stealing wool, horse hair and skins in tlie Ruatoria distriet, the property of Sam Ngarimu, of a total value of £80 15s. The charges extended over several months. Evidence was given that accused visited Xgarimu's woolshed at night from Marcli to July last, took wool, ete.. away and sold it. The total quantity of wool stoleu was about 3088 pounds weiglits Tlie buyer at length beeame suspicious and commnnicated. with the police. Tlie Magistrate said accused had a bad reeord.
