BAY TOURISTS BADLY THRASHED BEATEN BY 32 T.O 6.

AUCKLAND, Saturday. Hawke's Bay met Auckland to-day at Rugby and suffered a severe thrashing. Tbe teams were: Hawke's Bay. — llickling, Mills, Baird, Brodie, Setford, Botherway, Beckett, McKay (rover), Robinson, Cairns, AVilson, Roach, Campbell, Heffernan, and McNeil. Auckland. — Butler, L. Hook (substitute for 11. Hook), Lueas, Minns, Busli, Jamieson, Corner, B. Fletcher (rover), Palmer (Hadley injured in Wairarapa game), Finlayson, A. Knigbt, Batty, Anderson, L.' Knight, and Righton. Tlie Bay liad tlie better of the opening exchanges, their hefy forwards putting a lot of pep iuto their play. Sweeping into Auckland territory a penalty was awarded in a liandy position, and Mills goaled it. The Auckland backs made an effort to break through, but tlie Bay again turned the attack and a score looked certain, wlien Campbell passed to McKay. who was thrown out at the corner. Auckland cleared from a penalty, and tight play followed, until the Bay returned, throwing the ball about. This enabled L. Hook to intercept, and a score seemed li&ely after he had made a great run. Anderson, hoivever, dropped his pass. After Finlayson had also narrowly missed scoring, Corner got his backs going nicely, and a brilliant movement by Jamieson. Bush, Lucas and Minns enabled' Auckland to equalise. On resuming the Bay compeljed Auckland to force. Tbe relief was only temporary, a fumble by Corner letting tbe big Bay pack riglit to Auckland's line, wliere Butler made a lucky save. Auckland had a torrid few minutes, till A. Kniglit and Jamieson removed play to half-way. Brodie saved tbe visitors after a fast follow by Butler had toppled his vis-a-vis (Hickling) over. ■Tbe outstanding feature of the subsequent play was tbe mediocre quality of Auckland's line-kickiiig. Tlie Bay backs were engaged in a passing bout when -Lucas. intercepted, and scored a great try for Corner to convert. Within two minutes L. Hook scored from a line-out opening by Finlayson, and Auckland led at the interval.
