CYCLING AT HAVELOCK
OPEN AND JUNIOR RACES. MISFORTUNES OF ELDERS. Of the seven wlio entered for the open cycle race at Havelock 011 Saturday onlv five finished, because Mapubi and Mollesen fell out during tlie first lap. Mollesen was seen to alight 011 Nimon's bridge and he explained that his chain liad slipped off. _ Mapulii arrived very late and explained that he had a punctured tyre. The local sclioolboys seemed in form and anxious to exliihit skill, so the club dec-ided to start them as a curtain raiser, hut the boys spent ko mucli of the afternoon in saying, "If you go, I sliall go," that their event had to be deferred until tbe open race was over. The boys, wbo went once round tbe bloek, did tlieir lap in good time. Tlie rule for races for _boys_ precludes any rider using a racing bicyc-le so that a boy may use tlie tanuly bicycle and bave a good chance. Tbe iresults of tlie open race were.— Jobansen 1, Vernon 2, Miller 3: and in tbe jnuior event. J. Heenan I, ix. Cliristie 2, H Vernon 3.
