GREYMOUTH. Last night. The New Zealand amateur boxing championships wero commenced touight in tlie Greymouth Town Hall bet'ore a large attendance. Results: — Liglit-weight. — N. Moulin (Ashburton; 9.3, beat A. Craig (Te Aroha) J.9. Tlie winner, with a louger reach, was the liioro aggressive throughout. )Y. Carey (Canterbury) 10. U boat E. Oxley (Manawatu) 9.4. The loser was plucky, but Carey was tlie laster boxer. Alitidle-weight — J. O'Connor (Wellington) 11.3 beat R. McGlice (Alanawatu) 11.3. Tlie winner was the harder and more accurate hitter. Welter-weiglit. — P. J. Stone (Wellington) Ri.5 beat O. McLvuight (Aucklainl) 10.5. This was an excellent contest. both swinging very liard blows, McKniglit landed witli efi'ect, but Stone proved tlie cleverer boxer. Feather-weight. — G. Wright (Canterbury) 8.12 beat P. Hawes (Westport) 8.13. The bout was fairly even. Tlie loscr was tlie more aggressive, but Wright used better judginent W. G. Leckie (Otago) 8.13 beat W. Drinkwater (Manawatu) 8.8. With advantages in lieight, reach and science, Leckie outclassed his opponent. Lightweiglit. — L, F. Ennis (Waimate) 9.11 beat R. B. Martin (Auckland) 9.9 Till half- way through the bout Martin easily was the better, but despite going down earlier for count of eight Ennis grimly attacked in the final round and got all over the Aucklander. J. McMnhon (Taihape) 9.10 beat A. W. Argyle (Waimate) 9.10. The winner was the cleverer, but not much aliead till near the end, when he floored Argyle. Middle-iv eight. — M. O'Brien (Auckland) 11.2 knocked out H. Davis (Otago) 11.2, in tlie first round. Feather-weight. — H.> Johns (Auckland) 8.12 beat T. Dudley (Greymouth) S.13. Tlie loser was the attacker, but the winner's margin in the first round was tlie deciding factor. Middle-weight. — R. Nicholls (Southland) 11.2 beat 11. Lister (Greymouth) 11.2, by a comfortable margin. Bantam-weight. — W7. Davey (Christchurch) 8.1 beat WL Scott (Westport) 7.13, the loser retiring in the first round. Welter-weiglit. — A. Low (Otago) 10.4 beat A. Moffit (Westport) 10.9, by a tcchnical knock-out in the first round. P. McMnhon (Taihape) 10.3 beat H. Drew (Otago) 10.6. The winner, tbough tlie shorter man, lasted the better. L. Adams (Southland) 10.9 beat J. Moynihan (Greymouth) 10.8. after a good contest by cleverer boxing. Light-weight. — T. WTalker (Otago) 9.9 beat M. Burk (Southland) 10.0, after a fairly even but interesting bout. G. Thomas (W7ellington) 9.7 beat_R. WTright (Greymouth), after a fairly even contest. Bantam-weight. — N. Ohikls (Taranaki) (8.2) beat J. Richmond (Otago) 7.12, by a comfortable margin. Feather-weight. — L. Spencer (Southland) 8.9 beat C. Hoskins (Wellington) 8.12, by a comfortable margin. tn the light-wcights C. J. Roper (Taumarunui) won by default from A. Sterling (Canterhury). while H. Thomas (Wellington) won by default from-E. W7ade (W7aimate). In tlie bantams L. Spencer (Southland) won by default from C. Warne (Manawatu).
