THE GLORIOUS "FIRST"
TRODT FISHING SEASON OPENS TO-MORROAV. ANGLERS ACTIYE. To-morrow is tlie big day for the aiigling fraternity, marking the opening of tlie trout-fisbing season in Hawke's Bay. Altkough fishing does not generally commence in earnest till the opening of tlie Taupo season on Xovember 1, mucb entbusiasm is shown by an anglers in wliipping tbe Haivke's Bay streams, and it is expected that there will be mauy rods out to-morrow. It is considered that prospeets for a good season's sport are brigbt, although tlie opening day's sport may be interfered with tbrough the iveelc-end rain, discolouring the streams. However, anglers confidently expect that the Hawke's Bay rivers will provide them with an excellent chance of getting their hands in for the opening of the Taupo season. At Taupo and Rotorua, too. the prospeets are very brigbt and the reports of the excellent fishing ohtained there last season will doubtless attract an increased number of overseas anglers. The Government Tounst Departmen-o is making special ' arrangements to cater for visitors, and tlie new information bureau at Taupo will he open for the season. Reports l>y rangers, who have been taking fish for tagging during the Winter, indicate that last season's improvement in the condition of the trout will he well maintained. Tlie average weight of fish taken from Taupo and the surrouuding streams last season was 71b., and there were frequent catohes of fish weighing up to 121b. and 141b.
