Tlie senior-sergeant st.ated that the language complained of ivas usqd to two Mauri women, members of the Maori Council, witliin the pa. The aecused ivas drunk at the tinie. Asked lvhetlier lie liad used the language complained of, the aecused replied that he might have, hut lie did not knoiv, as lie ivas drunk. The Magistrate: Where did you get the' drink ?— -At the pub. Oli, not in the pa? — No. usually at the pub. Coiistable Gartley stated that it was extremeiy difficult to find where the liquor came from that ivas consumed in the pa. The aecused had sobered up sinee tliis occurrence. "Well, I'm just wonderrng whetlier I ouglit not to send you to.gaol," remarked the Magistrate. "Oh, I'm a good boy now, ivhen I m not boozed," came the reply. "Yes, but it's plain that you're a nauglity hoy ivhen you are,5' replied the Magistrate. A fine of £5 ivas entered and a prohibition order made out in the acCUsed's name. On hearing the amonnt of the fine tlie aecused delved into oue of his ppokets and 'produced a bulky roll of notes and was apparently going to pay casli 011 the spot to tbe Magistrate. ivlien a constable led bim gently in the direction of the court office.
