1NALATES POACH OYSTERS. TASTY DISH, BUT NO STOUT.
AUCKLAND, This day. Two inmates of Rotoroa, lnebriates' Tsland who were recentlj* caught pOaching oysters by a flsheries inspector, were chai-ged at the. Auckland Police Court with breaches ' of the Fisheries Act, 1908. They were Peter McGratli and William Morcan. Neither appeared. Frank Flynn, senior fisheries inspector at Auckland, said he found Morcan > and McGrath with five dozen oysters 'which they were taking to the home for lunch. Both men had excellent outfits'for breaking oysters off .the rocks. These sliowed that they Ea'd been niuch used. "There used to be a good oyster bed down there, but now it is in a badly-deplcted state," said the inspector. "Thev had no stout, however ?;' asked Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. ' "No, sir,' I'm afraid not." The magistrate said it would be no use fining tlie men, for tbey were not iii a position to pay. Each was convicted and discliarged. Mr V. N. Hubble, who prosecuted for the Fisheries Department, said the departraent wished these men to know that they eould not take oysters. "Quite right," replied Hr Hunt, "The' superintendent of the lnebriates' Home is going to see that sueh a thing does not oceur again."
