SEA FISHING
SHARKS AND PORPOISE. RIVER AND BEAC'H AT HAXJ410ANA. Although Spring is present and the davs are warm the sod is eold yet and the water of the sea. is "also cokl and, seemingly, too cold for good fishing yet. Sea fishing is usually thought to commence after the show, so tlie sea son is early yet for that form af activitv. A'esterday, many people intent on returning home with fish, gathered at the Tuki Tuki mouth and various devices were used to attrac-t the fish but not a catch was recorded. Two visitors went out to sea in_ a boat and were amused by the antics of a scliool of porpoise whieh sprang from the water with much glee. Several men fishing for sclniapper along the beach hookod sliarks varying from thirty inches to live feet in lengtli but otherwise, if a good sunbath is to be discouuted, spent an unprofitable day. The great flood of this year hronglit manv changes in the course of tlie Tuki Tuki, and the cliannel from the bridge to the mouth bears a diffenent appearance from that of last season, for the stream has left tne bank where the herring fishing abounded and is now on tlie Grange side. Haumoana beach is not supposed to be wonderful, but yesterday the extraordinary calmness of the sea and the tide made the sand available for the best hours of the day, without fear of rare waves to comc far up towards the shingle and surprise unwary visitors.
