LAWN TENNIS
WEST END CLIJB. THE OFIFICIAL OPENING. The official opening of the West End Tennis G'lub, wliich took place at Ebbett Park, Hastngs, on Saturday, October 5, was favourecl \vith glorious Summer weather. Mr A. Hampton, president, in introducing his Worship the Mayor, Mr G. F. Roach, referred to the valued assistance wliich had always been given by the Borough Council to the club. : In the course of his remarks liis W orship congratulatecL _ -jfche club on the sound position which it had established in its two and a-half years' existence, both financially and in the appearance of the grounds. He expressed gratitude to Mr Geo. Ebbett, whose generous gift had made such a fine area available as a sports ground for the young people of Hastings. Mr P. Loach also endorsed the Alayor's remarks and stressed the necessity for indulging in good healthy sport. His Worship tlien ' declared the courts open' and an enjoyable afternoon was spent in friendly m'atches by the visitors and members present. Tlie dainty afternoon tea dispensed by tlie ladies was very much appreciated.
