NAPIER BRO ADCASTIN G STATION PLEASES LISTENERS.
DOMINION-WIDE APPRECIATION. Many expressioii of appreciation on the class of programme put 011 the air and the clarity with which it is broadcast has been received by the management of tlie Napier Broadcasting Station, run by Messrs O. B. Hansen and Co.. Ltd., in Dalton street, Napier. The station was started some months ago and has maintained a schedule of thrice weekly concerts, broadcasting on Wednesday evenings, Sunday afternoons and Sunday evenings; The items "put over" are from ln'gh-class gramophone records and liave provcd thorouglily enjoyable to all who liave listened-in to tliem. The management of the station has received two letters of appreciation on the quality of the entertaininent and tlie clearness of the reception from listeners as far north as Wipopo (North Auckland) and as far south as Invercargill (Southland) . Amongst the letters received are ones from Haumoana. Porangahau, Taradale, Hastings, Matamata, Okato, Waitara, Hawera, New Plymouth, Nelson, Masterton, Ashhurst, Underwood. (Southland), Invercargill, Cromwell (Central Otago). Taumarunui, Palmerston North and Gisborne, while the management has received many personal and telephone congratulations from Napier listeners. All the writers speak highly of the programmes offered, and recently a well-known city critic expressed the opinion that if the Napir station continued the way it had commenced R would be the foremost radio broadcasting station of its class in the country. The station is run enlirely for the pleasure of the listeners-in, for the promoters secure 110 direct revenue from broadcasting and liave to bear all the expense of installatiou and maintenance of plant. It is interesting' to note tliat the wliole of the plant in the station was made and assembled on the premises, so that the station is a. purely Napier effort. Gramophone records are playcd from a doublo electric turntable using two of the latest pick-ups, the microphone being used only for local items and announeing. The management has received many requests to extend its service, partieularly from people living _ in the conntry areas, and is considering a proposal to stage moro frequent concerts. _ . The offioinl designation of tlie station is 2ZH, Napier, and it has a power of 50 watts. with a wave-length of 238 metres or 1260 k.c.
