NOR-EAST HAVELOCK
WORK AND GROWTH. On the nor-eastefn side of Havelock tlie' growth of grass is most pronounced for in oue field the cattle bave grass over their knees. The great depth of black soil in that district is shown by the crops derived and a speeimen of leeks seen yesterday on Thompsen road would liave secured a prize for size, and quality at any c'ompetition where they could have been entered. Tn the orcliards of that locality tbe sound of tlie tractor is very noticeable now, for every orchardist tbere seems to have one oi' tliese devices for saving time. The frost of this week cansed anxiety and tlie lighting of tlie individual fires for each treo caused much extra work.
