HASTINGS TALKIES

ANOTHER WONDERFUL FILM. AN EXCELLENT PROGRA3IME. Last night, the second natural all talking picture programme was prescntecl in tlie Cosv De Luxe Theatre. Tho star attraction was the Scotland Yard detective istory "Behind the Curtain," and wlien the mytery which lay behind tlnit curtain was finally solved, theatre patrons were well satisfied that they had seen a reallv wonderful picture which can be trutlifully claimed as 100 per cent. "talkie." Comparisons were made with last week's picture "The Black Watcli," but it must l>e remembered that the two pietures nre in an entirely different class, and there is no doubfc that the speac-h in "Behind that Curtain" is even clearer tlian it was 1*11 last week's picture. ~Not one word was missed throughout the very thrilling storv, which camed one froir. England to the desert lands and back to America. The picture is purelv an English story, with a marked absence of American "twang," and those who desire to see and hear_ a really enjoyable and thrilling entertainment, sliould nofc miss it. The supporting programme includes the F ox movictone news, speeches by the King, and Sir Alex Godlev, and also a very amusiug all talking comedy. •Taken all raund. the programme is every bit as good as last week's opening programme, and for the uext scfeenings, patrons should reserv© at Fail's. "Fngitives," the Fox film at the Hastings Theatre to-night, presents a drama of gang war, hate, persecution and tender momeiits of youthful passion and affection. Madge Bellamy vividlv portrays the pririeipal cliavacter. She is supported by Don Tei'ry as her handsome leading man.- Miss Bellamy is dramatically superb in her characterisation of an innocent giad convicted of murder. The second star picture is "The House of Horror." It's a mysterv tlvriller de" luxe. "Tlie House of Horror" is never objeetionable. Evei"yJ>ody likes an honest thrill ocyasionally. Tt involves no questionable etliics like the old paper-backed novels — 110 crime incentive like some cheap vnagazine fiction. It's the newesfc, best. most popular means of relaxation and amusement fqn5 a woi:ld that needs to relax and must be amnsed. Louise Fazenda and Cliester Conklin are in the cast. Seats should be reserved at Hall's.
