request made to council. a resolution carried. At last night's meeting of the Hastings Borough Council a letter was received from Mr h. Penman, dealing with accidents due to using unsafe fireworks by inexperienced persons. _ Mr Penman pointed out tliat his own son and others liiet with serious accidents as the result of letting off flreworks on Guy Fawkes' night, and suggested that the council should take steps to cn.ll in all unsold fireworks, etc. It was recommended tliat the council make representations to the Governmcnt of tlie dagetous fireworks bcing sold to small children, and pointing out the number of accidents that have occurred as a result. and to suggest to the Government that fireworks of this nature should not he available foj7 sale indiscriminately to children and other inexperienced persons. The recommendation was adopted with ^he addition, on the suggestion of Cr. McCormick, that the sale of bombs over a certain power be prohibited altogether.
