HAWKE'S BAY UXION MEETS. USUAL MONTHLY GATHERING. The usual montlily meeting of the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Union was held in Hastings yesterdav, Mr J. H. Joll prt'siding. A letter was received from ihe Tutira brancli sccking information as to who lvas cligible to vote at the provincial confercnce on matters of policy, and also urging, that a day be set aside lor tlie consideration of any remits intended for Dominion conferc11ccs. It was deeided to adopt the suggestiou and to forward the desired information. The Dominion exeeutive wrote asking branclies to notifv their district labour huroaux of instances in which farm employecs had left their employment without valid rcason, the suggestion heing made in tlie hope that an exodus of farm labourers to talce up relief work would tie prevented. — Agreed to. . The Dominion exeeutive also advised that Sir Joseiih Ward had pormised tliafc such men would not he offered work hy thc Government, and that there was 110 intention of sending farm workers to relief works so long as employment. was available at their own occupations. 51r D. W. Wilson wrote complaining tliat the Dcpartnient of Agriculturo's noxious weed inspeetors liad not enough "|iowcr in atteni|iting to control noxious weeds. Thev were not allowed i> taho action until the weeds became a nuisance and tlien it was too' latc for action to be really useful. It was decidedsto recommend to t1, Government that. the noxious weeds act he amended so as 1.o allow inspcctors to take action at a more useful timo.
