; AUCKLAND, Tliis day. After a diseussion lasting ti II oue n'clock tbis morning, tlie City Council resolved by 12 to 10 votes that- expert advice be souglit iu tlie selection oi a citv eugineer, for which 75 applications liave been received from Australia, New Zealand and elsewliere.. This numlier had pieviously heen reduced by the council to six, and strong public protest had heen made through the Press against a linal selection being made without exjjert advice. Mr Mawson, Director of Town Planning, and Mr Furkert, Engineer-in-Cliief of the Public Works Department, will be asked to make a confidential icport on the six applicants.
